More than a few years back, I think maybe before I got into comics, I forget… I did a video for Nas’ v “These are our heroes”… it was unreleased.
Maybe I’ll put some of the artwork up here when I get a second to breath, but anyway…
I’m honored to have done something for Nas, but this animation was a hard lesson for me for allot of reasons. I won’t go into details…
Just be ready to fail sometimes, and not always directly by your own hand… and be prepared to learn from those failures, cause if you don’t, you’re a dumbass.
LAST WORD I didn’t do the timing or the sinc… actually I did make editing/timing notes and my man Raph Tanghal did timing sheets based on them- as well as A GRIP of other shit, and his notations were completely disregarded by the director/editor.
I hope the guys at Rocketship don’t mind me stealing their bandwith with this image:
For everybody who came out, thank you… for everybody who didn’t, suck it. Nah just kidding, folks. …
It was the jump off. A good time was had by all, I think, as no one would ever bear the heat inside Rocketship otherwise. It really felt like a rocketship was about to fucking launch inside that store, it was hot hell born heat up in there… the air was all distorted, wavy and shit… but it was tight, and I am super thankful to the best graphic novel/comic boutique in the city for hosting my signing and putting my doodles up there on the wall. The guys at rocketship are real cool people. I hope my book sells a billion copies so that I can afford to get them central air for christmas; they can put a brass plaque with my name on it. Foreal… it was rock and roll in there.
Becks! you didn’t sign the mini comic! I want you and your Grampa to sign my shit!!! and how come you comic kids didn’t come over to the “china shop” and “zombie hut” for the afterparty! We danced until 4 in the morning!
Since a few people have asked, I’m just writing this quick post to let people know where they can get my work/update on the projects I’ve posted. Pictured above is my first solo “DÏ€” book, it collects all of the random Gratuitous Ninja work I did from 00-03. It’s available at lulu here.
I do my mainstream work under Ronald Wimberly (even though I signed that Grimm piece as DÏ€). I’ve done some short format work under Ronald Wimberly, but I’ve mostly done work for Vertigo; I’m featured in Lucifer vol.#9, Swamp Thing book#3:Healling the Breach and I did the covers for the Papa Midnight mini series.
So far this year I have Sentences: the life of MF Grimm coming out from Vertigo in September. I’m working on an issue and a couple of covers for Deadman.
As for DÏ€… D will be featured in a few anthologies and other “arts-y” projects this year. I’ll be in the yet announced, Meathaus: SOS book with allot of other very talented narrative designers; I’ll post the info once I have it. I’m pitching my unique way of making comics to a few cats this year… So keep an eye out, I’ll post any new info here first.
