17×23 2 color Metrotaurus Fortis silkscreen print

December 4, 2012

I originally crafted this for the Diesel Only the Brave gallery show launch for their fragrance of the same name. It’s a take on Gustav Klimt’s famous poster for the inaugural Secession and the Ver Sacrum except depicting my Metrotaur versions of Athena, Theseus and the Minotaur.

I’ve just got around to offering this as an edition of 25 (19 available on my etsy) in black and gold. Each purchased here comes signed, dated and numbered.

New Dates: Signing and Show

November 9, 2012

So, first off, my apologies for the confusion. I don’t know if you heard, but we here in NY had a little weather. I knew you needn’t bother traipsing around the aftermath to signings and galleries when you could be draining your basements, helping a neighbor drain their basement or helping the MTA drain their basements, so I’ve rescheduled the Forbidden Planet signing and the Superchief Gallery. The signing at  Forbidden Planet NYC will be held on 11.14.12 from 6:30-8pm. I appreciate the patience for everyone who’s following me, I will have some special goodies for the first dozen people to show up to the signing. I won’t say what they are, but they’re free so what do you care?

As for the Superchief Gallery show. Well, thing is, I’m still working that out. I appreciate your patience. Please keep an eye out here and on my tumblr for a blast as soon as I have something concrete to tell you.

Prince of Cats!!!

September 27, 2012

A new acquaintance reminded me that I haven’t updated this site in awhile, let alone for my new book release!!! So yeah, I neglect this blog because I’m OD-ing on Tumblr and Twitter, what can I say. But if you missed it, Prince of Cats dropped and it’s found its way into plenty of hands. It’s available at your local book store, comic shop, Amazon, Barnes and Nobles and even on iTunes. Thanks to everyone who’s supporting the book! Be sure to let the world know  on B&N, Amazon, iTunes whatever whatever. Write a Wiki!

Check out the tumblr

Here are a few reviews and interviews if you’re into that sort of thing:

Comics Alliance “The comic is a wild ride, clever, and wonderfully illustrated. I got a chance to speak to Wimberly about the book, the influences that led him to construct it, the vagaries of selling one culture to another, and what Tybalt has in common with the average young black male…”

Flavorpill “If Romeo and Juliet were a mix-tape, what would the story on the B-side be? That’s the context for Ronald Wimberly’s forthcoming graphic novel Prince of Cats, which focuses on Juliet’s bad-boy cousin and Romeo’s ultimate foe, Tybalt.”

Comic Book Resources “Ronald Wimberly has a confidence — a tempo — that simultaneously smacks of the ’80s East Coast Hip Hop scene and the future that he created himself.”

WiredRomeo and Juliet gets rewired through streetwise signifiers in new comic Prince of Cats, a postmodern remix of Shakespeare’s Verona that careens into Afrika Bambaataa’s “Planet Rock” and Prince Paul’s hip-hopera A Prince Among Thieves.”

Kotaku “…the updating that writer/artist Ronald Wimberly gives to the classic romance story delivers with Prince of Cats feels as electric and alive as the original version must have felt.”

Newsarama “Cartoonist Ronald Wimberly (Sentences: The Life Of M.F. GrimmBlack Dynamite) is taking on this dramatic classic with a new style, a new vantage point, and most importantly, a new lead character: Tybalt.”

The Alarmist

September 11, 2011

So it’s been ten years since 9-11. I watched it from the roof of Pratt and on m fire escape in Brooklyn. I don’t have much to say about it that I haven’t already. Here’s a comic I drew about it.

Oh Snap! I forgot! (SWTWC NPR)

August 23, 2011

So yeah, I forgot to mention…on my own website… that my adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes came out a week or so ago. My mother says it’s the best read of the summer, but don’t take her word for it.

Here’s a brief interview of me talking about it on NPR. But you know… don’t get caught up in the cult of the personality and the spectacle of fame, buy and read the book so I can feed my chil’ren.

NCMR 2011: The Future of Journalism Is … Comics?

May 25, 2011

A month or so ago I got up with some colleagues and rapped about comics and journalism at NCMR in Boston. Here’s the video. Enjoy!

NCMR and MoCCA Fest… Rare public appearances..Commisions

April 4, 2011

So…not only will I be speaking at the National Conference for Media Reform but I’ve decided I will swing by MoCCA Fest afterwards, on Saturday evening and again Sunday to hang at the Meathaus table (a11).

So this Saturday morning, in Boston, I will speak on Comics’ bearing on the Future of Journalism. I know, right?!!!

…and in the evening and Sunday, I will be at the MeatHaus table (a11). I believe they will be selling SoS and Go for the Gold3 as well as other great books to which I did not contribute. While I am there any books to which I contributed I’ll sign and doodle. Also I’ll probably bring a bag full of Sentences for which I’ll do the same. I will bring some original artwork, GratNin, Sentences, Swamp Thing, Papa Midnight… etc., If you’re interested in purchasing anything, drop me a line and I’ll make sure to bring it. This will be the first time I’ve offered my pages for sale at a con.

I am accepting GratNin commision requests. I may accept other interesting chara requests… but be warned, I can be choosy about what I will draw and maintain the right to not draw something for any reason.

looking forward to seeing anybody who swings through.

NinjAid

March 16, 2011

On March 11th, 2011 a great earthquake struck 130 kilometers off the east coast of Oshiko Peninsula, Tohouku Japan. This earthquake caused great destruction to Japan.

My work, particularly GratNin, has benefited beyond measure from the culture of Japan.

Starting today, I will draw a GratNin (16×22.5 cm) every afternoon for the next 30 days and post it at the NinjAid website. I will reward every donation of $35 or more made from that site with one of those original GratNin drawings posted or to be posted there.
